A letter from Pip

Hello there,

Hearing the news that your mum or dad’s illness is not going away and that they may not see you grow up is going to be hard for you. You may find it impossible to believe.

But the sad truth is, people who are sick can’t always be mended.

Thinking about life without your mum or dad can hurt so much inside. It’s not going to be easy but many other children have gone through what is happening to you and now have happy lives.

There is no right way to feel, everyone does it in their own way. Maybe you think that you should be sad all the time and that there will be no smiles or laughter. Don’t worry there will be both happy days and sad days. You don’t need to feel bad if you go for a while without thinking about your parent, or if you having fun with your friends.

Carry on joking around with your parent, talk about normal stuff, (it’s Ok to even being cross with them) because they are still the same person.

If your mum or dad is feeling too ill to spend time with you, this doesn’t mean that he or she doesn’t want to.

Do not be afraid that you will forget your parent. They will always be a part of your life. Start making memories now.

Sometimes it may not feel like it, but you WILL get through this

Love Pip x
